Le lendemain, départ de bonne heure. Je laisse mes affaires à l’hôtel et part pour le volcan Ijen. La route étroite passe dans des plantations de café et ensuite dans la jungle. La route monte de façon abrupte et la chaussée est par endroit totalement défoncée, la progression est très difficile.
Avant d’aborder la jungle, un homme m'appelle depuis sa maison et me propose à manger, il est encore très tôt. Et me voilà à manger un repas complet, je repars même avec des provisions pour la route. Finalement cela a été bienvenu car la progression est vraiment très difficile, je dois souvent pousser le vélo.
Alors que j’étais arrêté, que je mangeais pour prendre encore des forces et que je me demandais si j’allais retourner, un petit camion est passé, je l’ai arrêté et ai demandé à ce qu’il m’emmène.
Je suis finalement parvenu au village de Pos Paltuding, à une altitude de 1850 mètres, d’où part la marche pour le volcan. Une marche de 3 km conduit en bordure de cratère à 2368 mètres.
De là, le spectacle est absolument époustouflant, on voit au fond du cratère un lac turquoise réputé pour être le plus acide de la planète. Pas question d’aller s’y baigner.
La plupart des visiteurs venant au lever du soleil sur ce lieu, je suis tout seul pour assister à ce spectacle, un moment d’une rare intensité. Du soufre est récolté vers le lac, plus d’infos sur http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawah_Ijen
On July 7, I took a ferry to go from Bali to Java (about 1 hour).
The next day, I start early. I leave my luggage at the hotel and go to the Ijen volcano. The narrow road goes through coffee plantations and then the jungle. The road is very steep and in many places is in very bad condition, it is very hard to progress.
Before entering the jungle, a man call me from his house and propose me to eat, it is still very early. And there I am eating a complete meal, I even leave with some food for the road. Finally, this was very welcome because the progression is very difficult, I often have to push the bike.
While I was stopped, eating some food to get more energy and wondering if I was going to go back, a small truck passed, I stopped it and asked for a lift.
I finally arrived in the village of Pos Paltuding, at an elevation of 1850 meters, where the walk to the volcano starts. A 3 km walk leads to the edge of the crater at an elevation of 2368 meters.
From there, the sight is just staggering, one can see at the bottom of the crater a turquoise lake that is supposed to be the more acidic on the planet. It's definitely not a place for swimming.
