2 million stones for 55 000 cubic meters, 5 km of sculptures for 1460 narrative panels and 1212 decorative panels, the Borobudur temple is an absolute wonder. Build around the 8th century and buried for several centuries under ashes from an eruption of the Merapi volcano (that I visited a few days ago), it was rediscovered in 1814 and has had major restorations. The Borobudur temple is the biggest Buddhist monument in the world. I did not do less than 3 visits (2 at sunset and one at sunrise) to enjoy that magnificent monument.
